Amazon Web Services’ Healthcare launched a health equity accelerator. AWS said the accelerator is part of a larger 3-year, $40 million health equity initiative focused on supporting tech companies in this space. Each company within the accelerator gets up to $25,000 in promotional credits for AWS’s cloud-based products along with connections to venture capital firms, collaboration opportunities with AWS customers and more.

Amazon also announced deals with Geisinger Health System and Tufts Medicine in Boston. Geisinger, the Danville, Pennsylvania-based integrated health system, said it selected AWS as its lone cloud provider, as it will place its entire digital portfolio on the AWS cloud. Tufts Medicine, based in Boston, moved its electronic health record system and 400 of its applications to the AWS cloud.

Flagship Pioneering, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based biotech venture capital firm, started a new company that will use a tech platform to discover previously undiscovered human proteins. The company, ProFound Therapeutics, will use the discoveries for drug development. Flagship committed an initial $75 million to the ProFoundry Platform and generate an initial pipeline of novel therapeutics.

Cathay Capital, a Paris-based investment firm, launched Cathay Health, a €500 million ($536 million) health tech fund. The fund will focus on growth-stage companies across Europe, North America and Asia. To date, Cathay has invested €500M in the healthcare sector across 34 companies on three continents. The new fund has already invested in three companies, Tissium, Kojin Therapeutics and Initiate.

Semperis, a cybersecurity firm with healthcare customers, raised $200 million in a Series C funding round. The round was led by KKR and featured participation from Atrium Health’s venture capital arm. Other investors included Ten Eleven Ventures, Paladin Capital Group, Tech Pioneers Fund and Insight Partners. The funding will be used to scale the company’s staff and advance research and development efforts.
